I almost chose Manuel Rivera-Ortiz to do a presentation on as well! I love his work similarly to the one I chose because of the black and white. It really proves how loud a colorless photo can be, especially in terms of ethically evaluative photos like many of Ortiz's!

I enjoyed your presentation on Manuel Rivera-Ortiz's work, which did a great job showcasing how his photographs are categorized into both the interpretive and ethically evaluative buckets. Its unclear if all of Manuel's photographs are in black and white, but the photos you reviewed presented a historical and story like feel to the images by being in black and white. This type of color format will influence my future photography, by giving me pause on whether the story I'm wanting to convey would best be in a specific color. Although, the map portion of the presentation threw me off slightly by the different sizes and types, it was a well done presentation!
Hi Ashley! I enjoyed your presentation as I not only learned a lot about the photos themselves, but I also learned a lot about the photographer. Photography can be used in many different ways, and your presentation opened my eyes to the idea that a photographer can use their influence to uplift other photographers. The photos I chose for my assignment were also primarly shot in black and white and focused on disadvantaged communities but an interesting difference is that your photographer framed the people as resiliant while bringing attention to issues, whereas my photographer focused on preserving a cultures way of life.

Hi Ashley, I really enjoyed watching your presentation. It was very informative and I loved the pieces you chose to talk about. I liked seeing all of the black and white photos, as they were very different from the ones that were talked about in my presentation. It was nice to see a different perspective from another photographer!
